Mana Global and the Pho3nix Foundation today are pleased to announce a partnership with BMC Switzerland for the Pho3nix Sub7 and Sub8 Project, Powered By Zwift.
BMC comes aboard as the bike category partner and cycling course naming rights partner for the audacious attempt on June 5, 2022 that will see triathlon champions Kristian Blummenfelt, Joe Skipper, Nicola Spirig, and Kat Matthews attempt to break seven hours for men and eight hours for women over the full distance of triathlon.
The cycling course on the Dekra Lausitzring racing track will be known as the BMC Bike Course.
Founded in the 1990’s, BMC has designed, engineered, and created the world’s most technologically advanced and iconic bikes at its very own Impec R&D Lab in Grenchen, Switzerland. The premium bicycle brand has become the top choice worldwide for professional riders who have won team time trials, Tour de France stages, Olympic medals and world championships.
Ironman vice world champion Matthews is a member of the BMC Pro Triathlon Team Powered by 2XU. Her steed of choice for Sub8 is the BMC Timemachine 01 Disc with Vmax Aero Design and P2P Positioning System.
Matthews says, “The bike portion of Sub8 will be the biggest challenge. The teamwork and communication is a serious opportunity to maximise the speed I can go but of course also the biggest risk. I’m so comfortable on my BMC Timemachine that I can put all my concentration on these key factors and stay as relaxed as possible. This enables the fastest bike and then the fastest run!”
With its focus on creating speed, BMC has spent decades building the sport, refining ideas, and pushing technologies to their limits.
David Zurcher, CEO of BMC Switzerland, says, “We are proud to be part of the Pho3nix Sub7 and Sub8 project and look forward to supporting our BMC Triathlon athlete Katrina Matthews hopefully defying the impossible! The Sub7 and Sub8 really push the limits of human endurance and we are truly excited to see just what these athletes are capable of.”
Pho3nix Foundation board member and Mana Global CEO Chris McCormack welcomes the opportunity to partner with BMC. He says, “The Sub7 and Sub8 Project, Powered by Zwift is about redefining what is possible over the full distance. This dovetails with BMC’s vision and direction as a world leader in developing the fastest bicycles on the planet. Our common goal is to Defy The Impossible and with BMC on board we are much closer to doing that very thing.”
