As race day approaches for the Pho3nix Sub7 and Sub8 Project, Powered by Zwift, the Pho3nix Foundation and MANA Studios today release the fourth episode of mini-documentary series Pho3nix Presents: Road to Sub7 and Sub8.
In “Episode 4: The Process” the series turns its focus toward dual Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee as he prepares for the audacious attempt to be the first in history to finish a full distance triathlon under seven hours, all while keeping his progress under wraps from fellow Sub7 competitor, reigning Olympic champion Kristian Blummenfelt.
The episode follows Brownlee through arduous hours of bike testing in various conditions, from team time trialling on rainy Mallory Park race circuit in the United Kingdom to testing an experimental moulded aero bar on an outdoor running track in sunny Alicante, Spain.
It also reveals the importance Brownlee puts on the 180-kilometre bike leg towards his success – or failure – in the attempt. He drafts his brother, triple Olympic medalist Jonathan Brownlee, and several world-class professional cyclists into the endeavour to fine-tune the ride strategy, nutrition, and aerodynamics needed to ride on pace with the fastest Tour de France stage over 100 miles ever ridden and still be able to run a sub-2:30 marathon afterwards.
The Pho3nix Sub7 and Sub8 Project, Powered by Zwift will take place on the 5th or 6th of June 2022 at the Dekra Lausitzring motor racing complex in Germany. Brownlee and Blummenfelt are racing to be the first man in history to go Sub7, while dual Olympic medalist and European champion Nicola Spirig will go head-to-head against European champion and world #6 Kat Matthews to be the first woman to break eight hours in a full distance triathlon.
Pho3nix Presents: Road to Sub7 and Sub8 takes you behind the scenes of the last two years of training and preparation for the attempt as these elite athletes take on this unprecedented opportunity to Defy the Impossible and make history.
